This might come as a surprise, but the only statutory requirement for bar admission in Ontario is that one must be of good character. The determination of “good character” is made by the Law Society. This has led to some interesting issues over the years.
Those who think they may have “character issues” should consider approaching the Law Society (probably through a lawyer) before spending three years in law school.
